In the August/September issue of Hub News, read about the companies based in The Digital Hub that are contributing to the evolving landscape in Irish Radio broadcasting. Following RTÉ’s first ever independent radio commissioning round, Red Diamond Media have produced a science series for the ‘Today with Pat Kenny’ show. Athena Media, who are behind the Home Grown radio series for RTÉ, were recently appointed by the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland to conduct a major review of the Irish broadcasting market.
Athena Media were also involved in a recent seminar held in The Digital Hub about a somewhat different type of broadcasting – Audioboo – a simple audio publishing tool that also has ‘hyper-local news’ potential.
In other news, recent research shows that Irish people spent over €2.1 billion online in 2009, but most of this went outside the country because 70 per cent of Irish consumers failed to find the product or service they were looking for online in Ireland. A new project, ‘WebActivate’, aims to help small Irish businesses get online, while giving training and work placements to 200 people who are currently unemployed.
